Essential Greenhouse Equipment
Greenhouse equipment is one of those areas of greenhouse gardening that you may not think about often, but has the potential to make or break your greenhouse hobby or business. Having the right greenhouse equipment ensures that you have greater success in growing healthy, bountiful crops. It also means far less headaches, and backaches while gardening in your greenhouse.
Watering in the Greenhouse Garden
All plants need sunlight, water, nutrients, and air to survive, and much of your time in the greenhouse is spent watering your plants. For this reason, one of the most essential areas of greenhouse equipment pertains to hydration.
Lugging a full watering can around several times a day may be tolerable if you are only growing a few plants, but most greenhouse gardeners find that a quality garden hose and nozzle is essential.
For those greenhouse gardeners who prefer a more high-tech approach to watering, an automated sprinkler system, drip hoses, or hydroponic feeding gear may be the answer. These types of systems often require far less energy on the part of the gardener, freeing you to spend more time performing other greenhouse gardening tasks- or perhaps even more time to enjoy the fruits of your greenhouse labor.
Controlling Greenhouse Pests
Weeding is less of an issue in the greenhouse than in the backyard garden, but weeds do still crop up, as do insect infestations. These pesky garden intruders may require a variety of pesticides, weed control sprays, or old-fashioned manual labor to control.
Depending on your level of organic preference, this area of greenhouse equipment can vary in importance. However, having even a bottle of liquid dish soap or organic pesticide on hand for when you notice a problem is essential to the success of your greenhouse garden.
Easing Strain in the Greenhouse
If you spend long hours tending to your greenhouse garden, you’ll want to reduce the strain of your gardening activities as much as possible. This can be accomplished by adding such greenhouse equipment as greenhouse benches, kneeling pads and additional ventilation during hot days. Gardening gloves, adjustable lighting, thermostats for your greenhouse and a well-thought-out floor plan can all help to reduce the physical strain of greenhouse gardening.
While every greenhouse gardener has a list of essential greenhouse equipment that they can’t live without, the basics of a watering hose, insecticides, and greenhouse benches- in addition to your pots, plants, soil, and disinfecting supplies- are wonderful items to have on hand in the greenhouse. We especially like the convenience and added space provided by greenhouse gardening benches. What’s on your must-have greenhouse equipment list?
